The best year of our lives...

2013 has been the best year of our lives!

We had a very snowy January and February….
...in March we had a beautiful peaceful trip to the Elan Valley in Wales together with Willow...
...April saw us spend Lauren's 27th birthday in Brighton and seeing the sunset at the top of the Shard in London…
...we had our hen party in The Cube Birmingham in May with a spa, afternoon tea, spanish meal and a rooftop champagne lounge…
...Lauren was featured in a BBC documentary about midwifery over the summer months…
...July brought us the best day of our lives - our amazing wedding day, our mini moon in Brighton and our beautiful honeymoon in Mexico...
...we revisited The Cube in Birmingham for our nine year anniversary in September…
...saw the Northern Lights in Reykjavik in November…
...December saw us surprising Lauren's mum and aunty in Malta with a surprise party for their 50th, both getting new jobs, and spending our tenth Christmas together - our first as Mrs & Mrs. Phew!

2013 also bought us a few challenges. The first came in the form of me losing my job in April, when the company I had worked for for five years closed our store. Our team of 6 had all pretty much been there from the store opening to the last day of trade, and we had became like family, with us experiencing break ups, new relationships, two of us becoming parents, one becoming a grandparent, all of us moving house, three getting married, as well as life's up and downs. I loved my job (we were a gift shop owned by a Buddhist charity) but after meeting up with my colleagues recently, we have all found better jobs which offer us more of a challenge, and better opportunities. I have since found a temporary job with one of my favourite companies, and am enjoying every minute. I have recently had my contract extended (and will hopefully become permanent) and have been given a promotion. I am glad that my new job gives me the opportunity to put my skills to use.
Lauren also had a career move, becoming tired of her current job as a midwife in a hospital, she made the brave move to become one of 6 midwives pioneering Birmingham's first home birth team, something which has always been an interest of hers. Like my job, she is getting to learn new skills whilst utilising ones she already has. The home birth team officially starts in January, and seeing her get a home birth kit, and start booking pregnant mums-to-be was really exciting.
In October, Lauren's beloved dad suffered a stroke. The hardest thing she had ever had to deal with, we both struggled seeing Lauren's confident, funny, 'in-charge' dad suddenly become anxious, quiet, and confused. Luckily, his health and mindset are improving every week, and as someone everyone in Lauren's family looks up to, he is fast becoming his old self again.

But through all of the highest of highs and most challenging of lows, 2013 has brought us so much love than we ever thought possible, from each other and from our family and friends around us. We have become even more grateful for the love, support and friendship from those who we adore the most, and them all being there throughout our best year yet, and there on the best day of our lives, will always mean the world to us. Goodbye 2013, you have had your ups and downs but we have loved you. Thank you for our amazing, beautiful wedding day, memories we will treasure forever, and the first sixth months of married life - it is more incredible than we could ever say!
As we don't want to make this post too long, we will write tomorrow about our plans for 2014 - we think it's going to be another busy one!

As the sun sets on 2013...
We wish you a happy, healthy, fun filled 2014!
